Companies sometimes lease computers instead of purchasing them outright. I am not crazy about it unless they would give you some sort of warrenty. I don’t know any sites but you can try to config a new laptop from Compaq.com or Dell.com. You might be able to find something in your price range.

If you’re looking for a new laptop, “off-lease” is not the way to go. These computers were leased by companies or individuals and returned after the lease ran out. Sometimes they are leased directly from a manufacturer and before they are resold, they’re tested and refurbished to “like new” condition. But if they were leased by a company other than the manufacturer, there’s really no way to know what condition they’re in. I’ve bought two laptops from Dell. Both were under $500. One was used and refurbished, the other groundbreaking new. Both are functioning just fantastic. Here’s a like to the Dell Outlet Store (refurbished): http://www.dell.com/content/segmenter.as…
    and their main site:http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segto…
I have not checked the current prices or availability but just about every week I see newspaper ads for the Inspiron 1501 for $499. In the Outlet Store you might be able to find an Inspiron B130, or 1300, or 2200 for less.
    plrr
