Any mac is reliable. Just search froogle.com or ebay or somewhere.
I reckon that craigslist is the best way to buy a used Mac. You can look at it before you buy it, not just look at some pics.

While the OS is reliable, the previous owner isn’t always.
Best place to look is on your local craigslist. Ususally you can find some nice laptops in your area on there– just do a search for macbooks, powerbooks, and ibooks…

Safest, surest way is to go with a refurb from Apple.
