What is the problem with dead IBM ThinkPads?

have been using IBM thinkpads for a while now and have never faced such problem. I have an IBM thinkpad which is installedwith Windows Xp on it. Last night the thinkpad shut itself down while working and now it does not turn on. All the LEDS on the thinkpad glow when power button is pressed. Can anyone here clarify me What is the problem with dead IBM ThinkPads? Any help is highly appreciated.

It is possible that the battery of the laptop is out of charge due to which the laptop is not booting. Sometimes the battery of the laptop does not get charged when connected to the AC adapter. If such a situation occurs then the system will only work till there is enough charge in the battery. Connect the laptop to the AC adapter and let the battery charge for about 3 to 4 hours. Disconnect it from the AC adapter and check if the laptop is booting.

If the system is not able to access the RAM chips then it will not be able to start. The files which are required for the operating system to boot are first loaded in the system RAM and are then executed from there. Hence if the system RAM is inaccessible then the system will not boot. Open the laptop and remove the RAM chips from its respective slots and clean the connecting terminals.Replace the RAM chip back in its slot and boot the system. If there are multiple RAM chips then try and boot the system using single RAM chip at a time. If for any RAM chip if the system does not boot then discard the RAM chip as it may be faulty.

As the laptop was working when it shut itself down, I suspect that there is some heating issue related to it. If the internalcomponents of the laptop gets heated up beyond the threshold level then the system will shut itself down to prevent hurt to the internal components. In this situation I would suggest that you take the thinkpad to the nearest service center and get itchecked. If there is any hardware failure associated to the problem, it will be solved for free if the laptop is under warranty. Otherwise some charges will be levied.

The motherboard of the computer is responsible for all the functions which are carried out by the computer. Hence for proper working of computer, the motherboard should work properly. If the motherboard is not working properly, then the system will give problems which are similar to the one which you are facing. Get the motherboard of the laptop checked and see if it is faulty or not. If the motherboard is faulty then you will have to get the motherboard replaced.

Most of the laptops face the problem with residual charge storage. Residual charge gets stored near the RAM chips and other components on the motherboard. If the residual charge stored on the laptop reaches the threshold level then the system will not be able to access all the components and hence will not boot. To bring the laptop back to working state, you will have to clear the residual charge of the laptop. To clear the residual charge from the laptop, shut down the laptop and remove the battery. Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. Replace the battery and check if the laptop is booting or not.

Re: What is the problem with dead IBM ThinkPads?
According to me the power bank on the laptop must not be working properly due to which the system is not able to power up. Power bank situated on the motherboard of the laptop must not be able to provide right voltage levels to all the components which are connected to the computer. Hence when you are pressing the power button the system is not able to provide right amount of voltage and hence it is not powering up. Ge the powerbank on the motherboard checked and if it is faulty, get it replaced. Replacing the powerbank will solve the problem.

A good way to Revive A Dead Laptop Battery

This is a successful experience to revive a dead dell inspiron 1300 battery of a Laptop user. But,  before  I proceed I just want to lay down some disclaimers below: If your laptop is still under warranty, then by all means get the battery replaced! There’s no guarantee that this tip will work with your laptop battery. If you have the money and there’s still available stock for your notebook battery, then just buy a replacement one unless you are a cheapskate. I won’t be held responsible for any hurts or injuries resulting from following this tip. You have been warned! Dell inspiron 1300 battery Now that the above has been made clear, this is the tip: freeze the battery! Yup, that’s the point. But, here’s the proper way to do it in simple. Read steps below: Remove the battery from the laptop Wrap the battery with ancient newspaper, making sure that it envelops the battery tightly Repeat step 2 above with at least three pieces of large sheet newspaper (if you’re using tabloid sized newspaper, then use at least five pieces) Place the wrapped battery in the freezer compartment of your refrigerator Let it stay in that cryogenic state for three to seven days Once your battery has been given the frozen treatment, do not directly plug it into your notebook! Let the battery thaw to normal room temperature within the newspaper wrapping by leaving it in the open for at least half a day (overnight is recommended). Tear off the newspaper wrapping and touch the battery. Does it feel cool to the touch? If so, then leave it at room temperature for a few more hours. Once it feels just about room temperature, take a piece of tissue and wipe the contact points of the battery just in case there’s some traces of moisture there. Once this is done, plug it in your notebook computer, plug in the power adapter and leave your notebook in “charging” state. Do not power on the notebook! Give your battery time to fully charge (this depends on your notebook/battery model). Once you’re 100% confident that the battery is fully charged, say your prayers, cross your fingers and power on your notebook. If all goes well, your battery should be working just fine. Although I won’t promise that this notebook battery revival method will work for your particular notebook model, it has yet to fail me on a HP, Compaq, Dell and an ancient IBM ThinkPad… why not just give it a try, what have you got to lose? I Haven’t Used My Laptop For A Long Time. Will It Just Work If I Plug It In If The Battery Is Dead?

I haven’t used my Dell laptop for nearly a year. The battery is completely dead. I plugged it in but it wont turn on. The charge light is on. If I leave it long enough on the charger will it turn on or do I need a new battery?

I have not used the Dell laptop for nearly a year. The battery is completely dead. Clutch, but is the most. Payment is on. If nothing is done long enough, the charger is in and I need a new battery?
