What to do when Toshiba Satellite M50-P3451 AC Adapter does not charge the battery

Recently the my Toshiba Satellite M50-P3451 AC Adapter has not been charging the battery when the computer is powered on. It will charge it when it is off though. Strangely when I turn on the computer the battery light will go off while the Toshiba light will remain on. After windows boots up completely the icon signifies it charging for a brief 5 seconds and then reverts back to battery power only. The computer will boot normally with just the battery in.
But, when I try just Toshiba Satellite M50-P3451 AC Adapter with no battery in, the laptop will boot up until the black screen right before the Windows logo normally shows up. Then it will shut off completely. Also note that with just the Toshiba AC Adapter in I can really leave the computer on indefinitely with no battery only while I’m in the systems bios. As soon as I try to start windows it will shut off before the logo. I have also tried another Toshiba Satellite M50-P3451 AC Adapter but not a different battery. It nearly seems like windows is involved with the problem. Any thoughts?
Will it make any difference if you boot the laptop into safe mode? May be Windows power management software is screwed up.
Here’s another test. You can boot the laptop from a live Linux CD. I usually use Knoppix CD. If you start the laptop from this CD, it will boot into a Windows-like environment. It loads Linux OS directly from the CD bypassing the hard drive. It’s a excellent test to find out if you have a software related problem. If the laptop still switches to the battery with the Toshiba Satellite M50-P3451 AC Adapter plugged, then it’s not software related problem.
You can also reinstall the operating system form the recovery DVD, it will eliminate any software related issues too. Make sure you the laptop has the latest version of BIOS. Upgrade the BIOS if needed.
A terrible connection between Toshiba Satellite M50-P3451 AC Adapter power jack on the system board and the system board is a very common problem with Toshiba notebooks. If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by resoldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it’s still under warranty, it would be fixed at no charge to you.

Repairing instruction for Dell Inspiron 6400 AC Adapter

This guide is about how to repair Dell Inspiron 6400 AC Adapter , if your Dell Inspiron 6400 AC Adapter is dead or just can’t work, hope this can help you. First of all, you’ll have to disassemble your laptop and remove the motherboard. Here you’ll find disassembly instructions for some major laptop brands such as IBM, Dell, HP, Compaq, Toshiba. If your laptop is not on the list, you’ll have to figure out yourself how to take it apart.
The tools you need are following:
1. Soldering iron or soldering station. I use Weller WES51 soldering station and for this job I set temperature to about 800-850°F.
2. I use high-tech rosin core silver-bearing solder from Radioshack with diameter 0.022? =. I reckon standard rosin core solder will work just fine.
3. Desoldering pump for removing solder around component leads. I use Edsyn Soldapullt pump, model DS 017.
4. 99% isopropyl alcohol and tooth brash for cleaning the motherboard from flux.
Start desoldering process with adding some new fresh solder to all three contacts. This will make ancient solder more flowable, simpler to remove. While heating one of the Dell Inspiron 6400 AC Adapter contacts, remove the solder from this contact using the desoldering pump. Repeat the same steps with all power jack contacts until you remove as much solder as possible.

Dell Inspiron F7970 AC Adapter replacing guide

Replacement Dell Inspiron F7970 AC Adapter can extend the life of your laptop for two years. If you still get excellent use out of your current laptop, there’s no need to spend thousands replacing the machine when you can replace the Dell AC Adapter for less than .
Chances are you will run into this problem if your Dell laptop is more than 3 years ancient. When you do, the most likely culprit is a terrible Dell ac adapter, such as Dell Inspiron F7970 AC Adapter. It has happened on every one of my last 5 computers. Manufactures are notorious for using cheap laptop ac adapter to reduce production costs, but the excellent news is it is amazingly simple to fix yourself. Once you find the right unit, the repair takes minutes and you’ll spend a fraction of the price a technician might charge.
Here is the guide to replace Dell Inspiron F7970 AC Adapter:
Disconnect all power and external peripherals from your computer and remove the cover or side panels. Don’t be worried, it only looks intimidating in there. The Dell Inspiron F7970 AC Adapter is located in a corner. It is probably the largest component inside the computer and looks like a metal box, usually with a fan built in. The power cord plugs into it and there are various cables from the other components plugged into the opposite end. It is very simple to locate.
The box should have some labeling on it that will tell you the power rating. The Dell Inspiron F7970 AC Adapter may be two ratings, a peak wattage and maximum sustained wattage. Focus on the maximum as this is the number that is most vital. It will usually be between 300 and 400 watts. It is always advisable to buy excess capacity here. You’ll spend a few more bucks, but the component will last longer.
Also, if your computer has a high end graphics card or other high end components, it may have a Dell Inspiron F7970 AC Adapter with a higher rating than stated above. If you’ve upgraded these components in the past and neglected to upgrade the Dell AC Adapter, this could have caused the failure and you should look at your upgrade documentation to determine how much additional capacity you should buy to properly power those components.
