How Do I Attach An External Monitor To My Toshiba Satellite (with Cracked Screen)?

We hae a Toshiba Satellite which has a cracked screen. We’ve gotten a VGA cord and attached it to the new monitor. The laptop recognizes that there’s an external monitor, but the monitor has a “Check Signal Cable” show only and is not showing us anything on our laptop screen. We tried changing the resolution on our computer but otherwise are meeting dead ends. Can you help?

have you tried to use your function keys to change default video output?
at the bottom of your laptop is the Fn key and you will have to look at the top of the laptop to find the key to change the video. it should look like a monitor in blue. normally they are on the function keys at the top. ie F1, F2, F3…

Right click anywhere on your desktop, go to “Properties”, then the settings tab. Select your new monitor (should be “2″), and click “Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor”.
