its a red dot type of mouse and you just guide it. you should know the type of mouse i have if you have an IBM thinkpad laptop or have seen one. I reckon its JAMMED. it stays to one side a lot or it goes in all directions.

IBM invented these eraser head style mice many years ago. You might reinstall the driver and that might fix the problem. You might try to change the bios mouse settings. When the computer boots up press ESC to access the bios.
Does it do this if you are using an auxiliary mouse (PS/2 or USB)–in other words does it happen if you keep your hand and fingers away from the tracking devices-and is the area free of static electricity?
