Compaq laptop appears to have an S-video input and some other polygon shaped input with a bunch of small holes in it. Why doesn’t this Compaq have a firewire input like my Mac? I thought all computers have that.

Not all computers have firewire, and that includes some Macs – but that’s a separate issue! DVD camcorders don’t transfer video via firewire or USB – you need to finalise the DVD in the camcorder and then read it in your PC. Once you’ve finalised the disk you can’t write any more to it.
hi you just need a DVD ripper and then you can read the DVD easily
here i recommend one it can help you convert any DVD to the format you like
for more details you can gotohttp://www.aiseesoft.com/dvd-ripper.html
hope it helps
and there provide a free trail so just have a check first
Install a PCI card, if your computer does not support firewire so you will be able to use the firewire cable. You can buy one at an electronics store. And buy one data cable from compaq store only which can support this data transfer.
