I like this laptop! My hard drive capacity and processor notebook content, which cost much more. I had no problems at all. It works well and is very simple to install and start using. Only I’m not crazy, that the keyboard is smaller than most laptops, which have a numeric keypad. numeric keys are smaller, and the comma is the end of the table where it should be …. He is on top. This confuses me, and have a bit ‘of time getting used to. Other than that I am absolutely thrilled! I would certainly recommend it to anyone!

Had problems with WiFi

I am going to cut right to the main point. The WiFi on this laptop wouldn’t stay connected. In one hour, it might go out 10 times. I returned the first one I got to Amazon and got a replacement of the same model. I had the exact same problem with both. Didn’t matter if I was three feet from the WiFi router or across the house. Same issue all the time. If it wasn’t for that, I would have kept the laptop. If you don’t need WiFi, this might be be a fine choice, but in my opinion WiFi is crucial in a laptop. That’s why I only gave it a two. This would get a four if not for the issue. Finally returned this and bought an HP – zero problems. 

Pros: 
I like the look of this laptop. 
It has a gorgeous LCD 
I like the case design 
Four USBs and HDMI 
Lots of RAM and storage 

Cons: 
Couldn’t get the laptop to stay connected via WiFi (both units had same problem) 
Numpad makes it harder to hit the right keys

I received this computer a week ago. I chose on this one after much research. It comes with the New Intel Core i3 processor and 500GB hard drive as well as 4 GB memory. It has HD show and is equipped with Windows 7. There are 4 USB ports and an HDMI port. The only this I don’t like is that the show (larger or smaller) only has 2 settings. Comparing it to a Dell Studio, it a better price point and has more features/memory. The web cam is also nice. I previously had an HP with a web cam and this one is much better. The multi gesture touch pad is fascinating. It does work, but takes time to become adjusted to the techniques. I am really enjoying the computer. It’s pretty quick and it has the memory I need for school/work. I would recommend this computer, but I am not an expert, just a consumer.

This is a gift for me to replace my ancient Gateway 2004 laptop. What a contract! For less than $ 600 you get super-quick processor, plenty of space, and Windows 7 (which, incidentally, is leaps better than Vista). I like the feeling of the keyboard. Is not as tight as a typical laptop keyboard, so it hurts your hands after playing. It also has a number of buttons on the right side of the letter keys, which I like. This computer has a built-in wireless card, and an Internet connection very simple. I just had to do something to connect to my wireless home network. Wow! The screen is bright and clear. And it all weighs about 5 or 6 pounds … much simpler on the shoulders when lugging around the airport! 

In a few drawbacks I found with this laptop handle mouse pad. I had to play a small mouse pad properties is as sensitive as I like. It took a small ‘digging to find the “Mouse and indicators” folder in Control Panel, but I reckon Windows 7 questions, and Gateway is not a problem. The second thing is the mouse button. Sometimes the left click is too sensitive to the wind in the selection / remove a certain point, when all I want to do is choose. Not a huge problem … just a small ‘uncomfortable. But I’m very gesture of the mouse pad is very cool. This makes it very simple to scroll through long documents and web pages. 

With the only office suite is supplied with the others (and I reckon that the Windows-based PCs today): It comes with Microsoft Works rather than Microsoft Office. MS thesis type of smell … And ‘watered-down version of Office I have to worry much, because they are not the same opportunities and practical programs such as Word and Excel. You can buy MS Office 60-day trial, but I would not have to deal with appeals. I’d rather pay more to do ahead and do it again. 

In general, I found all the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I like this computer and I am very satisfied. Gateway computer served me well over the past 15 years, and I would not buy anything else.

Fantastic computer, fantastic price!

This was a present to myself to replace my ancient 2004 Gateway laptop. What a deal! For less than 0 you get a super-quick processor, tons of storage space, and Windows 7 (which, BTW, is leaps and bounds better than Vista). I like the feel of the keyboard. It’s not quite as cramped as a typical laptop keyboard, so your hands don’t ache after typing a lot. It’s also got a set of number keys at the right of the letter keys, which I like. This computer has a built-in wireless card, and it makes connecting to the internet extremely simple. I hardly had to do anything at all to make it connect to my home wireless network. Yay! The screen is bright and crisp. And the whole thing weighs about 5 or 6 pounds…SO much simpler on my shoulders when lugging it through an airport! 

The very few cons I found with this laptop deal with the mouse pad. I had to play around a bit with the mouse pad properties to make it as sensitive as I like. It took a bit of digging to find the “Mouse & Pointers” folder in the Control Panel, but I reckon that is a Windows 7 issue and not a Gateway issue. The other thing is the mouse buttons. Sometimes the left-click button is too sensitive, so you wind up selecting/unselecting an item when all you want to do is just select it. It’s not a huge deal…just a small annoying. But I do find the multi-gesture mouse pad to be pretty cool. It makes it very simple to scroll through long documents or web pages. 

The only other con is the Office package it comes with (and I reckon this is across the board with Windows-based computers these days): It comes with Microsoft WORKS rather than Microsoft OFFICE. MS Works kind of stinks…it’s a watered down version of Office, which I don’t care for much because it doesn’t have the same capabilities as the real programs like Word and Excel. You do have the option to buy MS Office after a 60-day trial, but I wish I didn’t have to bother with the download. I’d rather just pay extra up front and have it already. 

Overall, I found all the pros outweigh the cons. I like this computer and I am very pleased with it. Gateway computers have served me well over the last 15 years and I wouldn’t buy anything else.

Of course this is my FIRST laptop so I don’t have much to compare to but I absolutely like it! It has all the features, built in’s and programs that I need and more. I can finally multi task and keep up with the jones!!  

There are but just a couple lil things I’m having issues with… The battery life is only about 3 hours and I didn’t realize how quick that REALLY flies… So that’s a bit of a bummer. 

I absolutely needed and wanted the number pad on the right like on a regular keyboard but I was disappointed to see the decimal point is on the top and so I’m not as quick as I used to be keying in figures. But that may just be a matter of getting used to… Still glad I got one with the number key. 

Lastly, my largest pet peeve is that the mousepad (also taking some time to get used to) is not centered right in the middle of the laptop. I’m amusing about having things being all even and this is mostly a ‘look’ issue. If the mousepad was centered, the number keys like a desktop keyboard and a longer lasting battery, this would be absolutely PERFECT! 

Overall I am very pleased with it and would recommend it to anyone. I can watch a movie, play a game, chat on IM and go through email with ease and of course with Windows 7, it just makes it all the more simpler!! 

If I had to do it all over again, I would still get this one in an instant!! 

Can’t beat the price either. After all said and done, I paid just under 0 which was about 0 less than what I was expecting to pay!! Kudos to Gateway for a fantastic laptop!!

Quick, reliable, but not without some warts

I’ve been using this machine for about a month now. The basics of this Gateway notebook are solid, for the most part. Quick, lots of storage, excellent functionality. 

All the same, there are some problem areas. The single largest is the keyboard, which is poorly designed and a pain to use. Tiny control keys in the corners of the keyboard, an even tinier delete key in the top row, and other issues make this hard to use me. But this is subjective, of course, so it may not be a problem for you. 

Documentation: Gateway provides an icon on the desktop intended to provide info on the computer. But if you want to eg. find out what features the machine comes with, …it tells you to look at the mark on the box the machine came in. ;-< It doesn’t provide a lot of info on other aspects of functionality either. 

The touchpad is sometimes oversensitive. The case seems to be a dust magnet. And there are a few other minor issues. Otherwise, though, it performs as advertised. 

I’d recommend this machine only if the keyboard isn’t a deal-breaker for you. I probably would’ve bought some other machine had I been able to try this one out before ordering. IAC I’ll be using an external keyboard whenever I’m not on the road.

I work from home a week at a time. I recently got a new Gateway MX6447 Keyboard at work and loved the “newness” so much i wanted to keep it that way. So I thought of making a cover for the new Gateway Laptop Keyboard to keep out the dust while I was away. Oh, and I did not want to spend $$ on it.This Instructable could not be simpler and costs next to nothing to make. Most of the materials you have in your desk drawer already.

Making the “spine” of the Gateway MX6447 Keyboard cover not only gives a way to place it on and remove, it also adds rigidity to the cover. For this step, line both sheets of paper up just as they were in the printer. Eyeball about 1″ from the edge and start to staple making sure to keep the sheets aligned. Only staple 4-5 inches up from the end. you will need the other half free to go.

Take what you have made so far and lay it on your Gateway MX6447 Keyboard. Line up the paper along the bottom of the laptop keyboard(where your wrists sit). Mark the paper 1″ past where the top of the Gateway laptop Keyboard stops. Take long straight edge (or like me the keyboard) and mark the line you will need to cut. This is all excess and can be thrown away.

Using the same technique as the previous step, measure and mark the edge of the Gateway MX6447 Keyboard side to side. Make sure the Spine is centered on the laptop keyboard. When you have both sides marked, lay the paper flat and fold. Make sure you crease well with your fingernail. For this step you will need to fold the spine over and then fold the back on your mark (Gateway laptop Keyboard edge). Once folded and creased well, cut the spine down to the fold.Tape the flat part front and back.

Once the cut is made. Fold and tape the corner.Once the cut is made. Fold and tape the corner.Lay the cover on the Gateway MX6447 Keyboard and mark the spot where the USB or PS2 cable enters the laptop keyboard.Cut the angle to match the desk and your done!!! Now you can keep your keyboard nice and clean.

Again the materials you will need are: -Your Gateway MX6447 Keyboard -2 11×17 Sheets of Paper-Staples and Stapler-Sissors-Scotch Tape-Pencil/Sharpie The pictures in this Instructable will be very helpful in visualizing what needs to happen. And it would help if you had a large work surface to do this on.

You could find the screws used to fasten keyboard from the back cover of the laptop, 2 in all, and generally, there should be 2 to 4 screws on common laptops.
