I ordered this product because I travel a lot and need something to do basic computer and e-mail. It ‘s a trick … but is extremely slow and in many blocks (I have been loaded with applications, either!) One of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten

For several years I went from Laptop to Laptop but had similar issues. They really weren’t small enough or portable enough for my taste (and the ones that were had a much larger price tag than what I wanted). The battery life wasn’t quite up to par and I wanted to be able to use it for extended periods of time without plugging it in. Then I got this Acer Netbook and it was a lifesaver. 

This unit is just the right size. It’s not so huge that it becomes bulky or hard to keep on your lap but it’s not so small that you can’t see anything or utilize the keyboard. I also noticed that despite the advertised 6.5 hour battery life, I’ve been getting upwards of 8 hours out of it. I’m not a huge fan of touch pads (nothing incorrect with the one that’s on this unit, I just don’t like touch pads in general) so I got the Wireless Mouse M305 and now all is well. 

My only real complaint is that I wish I could expand the amount of RAM to 4 GB, as that would insure a very long life of usability. Obviously, netbooks aren’t made to be powerhouse computers and I use this for my writing, web content updating, and surfing. I have a USB DVD drive, and I have watched movies on it without an issue (this drains the battery a bit quicker though) and any advanced computer functions that I need like video editing, I would use my desktop for anyway with the large screen. 

All in all, I’ve been thrilled with this netbook.

I’m in like!

All I can say is that this was the best 0 I’ve ever spent! I absolutely like this netbook. I can’t rave about it enough. I was one of those people who didn’t want a Blackberry because the print is too small. I like to read files and attachments in full size instead of on a hand-held device the size of a deck of cards. But a traditional lap top was too huge and cumbersome for me to tote around. So this was the perfect compromise. It’s light and super compact and I got mine in the hot ruby red color! I use it for work (mostly basic documents and files…no heavy duty graphics or enormous data) and for home (emails, facebook, youtube, etc.) and I am super impressed with the speed, the memory and all the features (especially the intro trial period of Microsoft Office that came free with buy). I highly recommend this product.

Fantastic Netbook!!

I bought this small Acer netbook for my 12 year ancient son. He Likes IT!!!! HE CAN PLAY ON-LINE GAMES WITH HIS FRIENDS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AS WELL AS FROM HIS SCHOOL. It was the best investment I’ve ever made for him!! Was really worth it and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a small computer. I also have one and I use it for social networking as well as on-line banking. Fantastic product!!

Poor battery life.

The netbook itself does what it was suppose to in terms of performance. The battery life, but, is very small, consistently discharging nearly 50% in three days even when off. This severely affects the portability of the machine,as I always have to carry the AC adapter with me, and Acer’s advice to charge the battery for a few cycles and to reset the bios did not help. Very disappointed.

This is a very small PC for the price. This is fantastic when traveling. Too terrible it came with integrated wireless data. I connected one of the arms trade and works well when traveling. Wireless WiFi works fine at home at Starbucks and other hot spots such as the local library. 

Here are the pro- 
Before Very mild. Fantastic for travel. 
According to Built-in card reader. We can see pictures and videos on the screen which is larger than that behind closed doors. You can also download the video to see Media Player. 
Third Built-in webcam and microphone works fantastic. My children used to talk with their grandparents who live in other continents too often. We use Skype video works fantastic when the network connection of the two extremes is excellent. My other laptop has a webcam and an external microphone and my wife despises you hanging wires. 
Fourth I installed MS Office 7 for your computer and it works well. Offcource I’m trying to load a very large document so that no memory or other problems. 
My wife uses as a fifth campanion kitchen. She looks at the recipes and cooking videos. 
Sixth Web surfing and e-mail works pretty well. 
Seventh Color Eye Candy pink is fantastic and is not available for many other brands or models. 

Cons - 
Before the screen is relatively small. I press the F11 key when using the browser. Takes the top toolbar and offers more screen space. Compared with the smart device free and the like (which has a similar price) is a larger screen. 
According Mouse pad is weird. Using the browser moving a mouse pad sudden finger on the screen. Makes all fonts so small that it makes reading the United Nations. Acer will solve this problem. Very unpleasant one. 
The third battery lasts me about 1.5 hours. It ‘must make another set of batteries if you take a longer flight time. 
And Fourth ‘need to convert DVD to SD card if you want to watch go. It is not simple.

Fantastic Laptop for Casual User

I originally was wanting to buy a secondary laptop for college, something that would be lightweight and simple to carry to class with me. 

This computer is amazingly light, I stick it right in my purse and take it everywhere with me! The specs are excellent and it is perfect for doing homework or surfing the internet. Of course you have to get used to the small screen and keyboard, but I got accustomed to that in about a week or so. 

I honestly have no complaints about this laptop, I have had mine for about 6 months now and still use it nearly every day. Of course the system is too small for an optical drive and that is understandable but doesn’t take away from it’s usefulness. I have a normal sized laptop to watch movies and burn DVDs but I take the small one with me so I can have the convenience of being connected 24/7. 

Certainly a fantastic buy for someone who is always on the go~

Terrific small computer

I have used this netbook a couple of times a week for the past year. Runs quietly and quickly for the size. I find it perfect for reading the news or typing papers. It has enough power to stream videos, play flash games, and upload all my photos to the web. The weight is brilliant for carrying around in a purse or backpack and can be used practically anywhere. I bought a cooling fan (sized for a full size notebook rather than a netbook) and was glad I did as this small guy gets very warm. I have loved this computer and expect to delight in it for a considerable amount of time into the future.

I GOT MY ACER VERY Quick AFTER I Place THE ORDER IN. ITS VERY CUTE! LOOKS DO MATTER. THE KEY BOARD TAKES SOME GETTING USE TO. I LIKE IT BECAUSE IT FITS IN MY PURSE. And it bounces

Got this for the lady wife. She has been more than pleased. She sits on the couch and IMs her sister and her daughter, updates her blogs and generally has a excellent time with it. Seems a trifle slow, but then it IS a netbook. 

She dropped it, 4′ onto our ceramic tile kitchen floor. She said it “bounced”. She picked it. No chips, no cracks and it works. It is the tiniest bit out of right. Does not seem to want to sit on all 4 feet. But still works and when it is in her lap she does not even notice. 

Some people had wondered about the durability of Acer products. Well, if you can go by this one, I believe they are place together right well.

Like this netbook!!

Okay kiddies, here’s my review. I have a desktop, laptop and two netbooks, both the Acer Aspire One. I got one in white and the other in pink. Like them both. Have one at home and the other at the office. I’ve had them since March 2009 & have no problems, just like them and get tons of comments about’em. If you need a DVD drive, then any netbook isn’t for you, unless you add an external drive, but then what is the point? This does exactly what it says. I immediately got rid of the McAffee virus, and downloaded the free AVG. Works perfect. I have added Skype, Yahoo messenger, firewall and lots more. You cannot beat the portability. No fan whine like some others have complained about. Went to Ebay and bought a cheap keyboard cover to keep the white keys pristine. Spent . Got an extra battery so I always have a fresh one. If you need portability, small size and lightweight, this one is for you. Okay I loved both the pink and the white, no fingerprints like the dark colors either. You pick. Keep waiting and you’ll miss out. I don’t regret jumping on the netbook wagon. I use my huge laptop but I take my netbook everwhere & you will too.

Perfect Traveling Companion

I picked up this Acer netbook about six months ago and haven’t been disappointed. At work, I take it to meetings instead of my company-issued Dell as the battery life is much longer (5-7 hours depending on use) and it’s super portable, not to mention a conversation starter. I regularly VPN/remote desktop into my work machines to start up SQL queries or other resource-intensive applications. I’ve edited docs, spreadsheets, powerpoint, and diagrams without much of an issue (use an external mouse if you do). I’ve taken it on business trips and vacation, and it was a breeze as a carry-on through the TSA. I tend to keep it in my purse with me all the time. 

I recently made the switch to Mac at home and my Acer is a fantastic option for the couple of applications that require Windows (without having to run Xp/Vista in Bootcamp). A netbook isn’t intended to replace a regular destop or laptop, but as a fantastic device for taking notes (I use Evernote), email, web and light office use, it’s my daily companion.

Pretty in Pink!

My husband just gave me the Acer Aspire One 8.9″ pink netbook for a present (a waaay early Christmas present, but I’m not complaining!). It took about 5 minutes or so before it was completely ready to go (we uninstalled the trial McAfee virus protection and downloaded the free AVG software), including setting up the wireless connection. The first night I used it, it went 7 hours on battery power (I had the power setting at max battery), and was still operating quickly even though I had it on the most energy-efficient setting. For the price, this small beauty is incredible. I will still use my 15.4″ laptop mostly at home, but for traveling and if I want to use a computer in our house outside our den (where I use the laptop) I will certainly be using the Acer Aspire One. 

Fantastic value for the money, especially with the long-lasting 6-cell battery. And cute as a button to boot!

Fantastic Alternative!

I bought the Acer Aspire One (AOD250-1185) for my yougest son who is a college freshman. He uses it non-stop and has no issues with the netbook whatsoever. My Wife also has the same model (in red) and also has been quite satisfied with the performance of this fantastic alternative to a larger, bulkier, and more expensive full size laptop. If a smaller, lighter netbook is something that you can use then don’t hesitate about the Acer Aspire One!

I bought this Acer and after a few days chose I wanted to return it, I found the same netbook locally which would save me some shipping costs. Lots of bang for the buck!

This is a fun small netbook. If your looking for a bargain, you should consider this one. I bought mine from Woot.com for 5 shipped. 

If you want something to do email and browse the internet it’s perfect. But, do not buy this if you plot on running a business with it. It is slow at times and I don’t reckon the processor has the horsepower. I reckon the performance compromise is well worth the portability. 

The 6.5 hour battery (standard on this netbook) is a must have. I have the three cell battery and it doesn’t last more than about 2 hours, a major limitation for going mobile or just convenient use around the house. 

I don’t get along well with trackpads so I got a bluetooth adapter and use a bluetooth mouse without any issues. I also use my bluetooth cell phone to access the internet anywhere there’s 3G access. If you buy a model without bluetooth, you can buy a USB 2.1 micro bluetooth adapter for about -20. It’s small enough to leave in all the time. 

Mine has 1gb of RAM. I will just be doing email and browsing. Not sure if 2gb would make much difference. This model has a dedicated access panel so upgrading is really simple. Currently a 2gb upgrade will cost around .00 and anyone, yes anyone, can do it.

Just what I needed!

I bought the Aspire One D250-1610 because of the excellent reviews on this site and I have not been disappointed. I needed a netbook solely for connectivity….as an extra link to the Internet at home when all the desktops were in use by the kids, or as a way to check my e-mail when traveling, and this small beauty does everything quickly and easily. I was amazed how simple the setup was, and the netbook immediately recognized my home network. The connection is very quick. 

I’ve only had the Aspire for 4 days, but I like it already! It’s a fantastic netbook for the price you pay!

When I first got this laptop is was appalled at the setup time. Then I was upset at how slow it ran. But for some reason ASUS chose to include a whole bunch of unnecessary junk. For instance they included DVD player software for a laptop that has no optical drive. Now I know that they are paid by the software developers to include versions of software on their computers but this case is a small bit excessive. So I installed Ubutnu from a USB thumb drive (you can pick these up for next to nothing and downloading Ubutnu is free and legal) and I finally had a laptop that preformed well enough to really surf the web/edit text documents/etc. If you’re interested you can find instructions for installing Ubutnu at [...] *note:these instructions are probably not for beginning users. if you are somewhat familiar with Windows and you have another computer to follow along with or you can print the instructions out you should be fine. If you are not all that comfortable with computers DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS as you can cause your laptop to stop working in which case you would have to pay a computer repair tech to fix the problems.

Fantastic! except..

ok, this is a fine netbook. The typical netbook spec (1.6 atom cpu, integrated graphics, 1gb ram…), 
which is same as most more expensive netbooks (with large sata hard drives). 
runs most streaming videos flawlessly, (hulu, HQ on youtube, though not HD…) 
and even 720p HD videos (not streaming 720p, due to software limitations by flash). 

but this specific version of Aspire One, (Acer Aspire One AOA110) use a very slow SSD. 
this specific SSD’s write speed is very slow, with random pauses during extensive use. 
Its low write speed slows down nearly everything, even web surfing. 

you can replace SSD with… a real SSD (1.8″ zif), or a 1.8″ pata zif hard drives. 
if you’re thinking of buying this, only do so if this is much cheaper than the hard drive version.

I’ve installed a wide variety of applications and games onto the Aspire One to see how it holds up. Overall the Netbook handles the applications I’ve tried very well as seen at my review page at [...]. But, applications requiring specialized video cards won’t run successfully although I still try and report which applications do fail to run.

Best Bang for the buck!

I bought this notebook to run my GPS and listen to music. It’s small package belies the brilliant keyboard and screen! 
I also use it to operate my portable Oscilloscope. This is an brilliant notebook! BUY ONE! You won’t be disappointed! If I turn off the wireless I can read an ebook for nearly 2 hours. So battery life is brilliant. On long road trips it’s indispensable.

Fantastic netbook for what I do

The Acer Aspire One does what I need it to do – I check my email, read the newspaper online, google while watching tv. Nothing fancy. The keyboard is a small tight but it works well with practice. I see this netbook as a replacement for my Blackberry web service – larger screen and more functionality.

Fantastic small computer!

I just needed something to surf the web with so my husband or daughter could use our desktop. I was worried at first that this would be too slow, but it is really quicker then our 3 year ancient desktop! It’s perfect for my like of watching youtube videos and playing online games. The only thing hard to get used to is sometimes reading articles strains my eyes as the text is so tiny. Other then that I’m in like!

Very Satisfying Netbook

I recently bought this netbook for cross-country travel on my motorcycle. I wasn’t expecting much, just the basics. But after getting it setup and using it for a while, I can honestly say I won’t be traveling anywhere without it. Plus my teenage daughter determined that the copper color is “cool.” 

First impressions… this thing is small. And very silent. And the screen is bright and simple to read at 1024×600. And the keyboard isn’t too small (I’m a 6’1″ guy with large hands). And the touchpad works fine if you don’t have a usb mouse handy. But the system works even better with a Logitech V220 notebook mouse. 

Then I noticed that the Aspire One worked fine when powered by the adapter, but very slowly when powered solely by the battery. A quick trip to the Control Panel/Power Options enabled me to change the power management functions to Always On. I then went to Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager and changed the Power Save Mode for the network adapters to Off. It no longer runs slowly under battery power… and the battery should still last for more than 2 hours. I am plotting on buying a 6-cell battery but, just for more battery time. 

Next, I removed Google desktop, McAfee antivirus, the trial version of Microsoft Office 2007, and various Windows programs/utilities I don’t use (Outlook Express, etc). Then, after downloading and installing Avast Antivirus 4, I downloaded Mozilla Firefox to replace Internet Explorer (which was then erased as well). Then Open Office 3 and Mozilla Thunderbird were downloaded and installed. Out of the original 8Gb of internal SSD space, I now have over 3Gb of free space. And the additional 8Gb SSD (my system is advertised as having 16Gb total SSD storage space) is completely free. So the 16Gb of SSD storage is plenty for my uses, and I can still run all of my Microsoft Office 2002 Word and Excel files on Open Office. 

Suggestion – in addition to the V220 mouse, get the CaseCrown travel case with the front pouch. You’ll need the additional space to hold the power adapter and cords, an RJ45 cable (for when the hotel doesn’t have wireless internet), and mouse. 

After years of buying stuff on Amazon, this was my first review. I guess it took a product this excellent to finally get me off my duff and contribute.

I bought a White Aspire One netbook (8.9 inch 1.6 Ghz Intel Atom N270 512 MB RAM 8 GB Solid State Drive) in Sept. 08 to use while I travel only – so I probably used a total of 120 hours or so over the last 18 months. I loved it – it’s light weight and booted up quick despite the fact I don’t know anything about Linux I was pleased with it. But a few weeks ago I took it out to use and found that first battery just DIED completely. Ok that’s ok I can just buy another battery. But I also got this sun/starburst shape bar (new item) that prevented me connect both wireless and wired. I googled and found a few user with similar problem without solution. After exhaustive research I finally contacted Acer via e-mail about this problem the answer I got back was your warranty had expired and you can try to restore the system to original factory setting or to contact their service rep (for a fee) to help you. I didn’t get a recovery disc with original buy (product shipped by Amazon not a 3rd party) so I guess either way Acer is trying to get you to pay more. Considering that I took very excellent care of my computer and having only `gentlely’ used this is not a bargain and Acer certain doesn’t care about their users. 
This is the first and only time I would own an Acer product.

Still Reliable After 15 Months of Daily Use

Awesome small workhorse of a netbook and still going strong after 15 months of daily use. The light weight and small size is fantastic for taking it everywhere I go. When I need more show room for my work, it’s a snap to connect the Aspire One to a large size monitor using the VGA port. Silent fan and cool running, long lasting battery. Keep the temp files and reg clean and it will continue to run as quick as the first day it booted up. The price has dropped and I’ll be buying more Aspire Ones for my home network.

One of the best LAPTOPs I’ve ever had.

The manufacturers keep whining that people don’t know they’re not supposed to reckon of a netbook as a laptop, but my Acer Aspire One has been the best compact laptop I’ve ever had, much more powerful than my 00 Sony SR-77 which it effectively replaced for under 0. 

I use it as a bedside computer and as my laptop when traveling, and it runs everything I need to (including games like World of Warcraft), has more disk space than I can fill, and if it gets stolen or dropped or something then it’s incredibly cheap to replace so it takes much of the stress out of traveling with an expensive computer. 

I’ve had mine for a year and have had no problems with it whatsoever. 

Will have no hesitation to get another Acer Aspire the next time I need a small portable computer.

Fantastic!

Pros: 
Battery life last a long time. I would say it averages about 6 hours. 
Price. Affordable. 
Small and lightweight. I can carry it easily with books in my bag. My other laptop consumes a lot of space and weighs twice as much. 
Never had a problem with it. 

Cons: 
Small was a pro, but also a con. Typing in long intervals can become a pain due to the small key board. 
I wouldn’t recommend this if it’s your only computer due to the keyboard size. 
If you don’t lay it on a hard flat surface, this baby gets hot. Since the exhaust vents are along the bottom, if you place this on a soft surface (your lap, the couch, your bed, a pillow, etc.) it cannot vent properly. I would bet that’s why some people rated this so low claiming failure. The motherboard probably overheated. 

I like it, and if you treat this laptop with some common sense you will like it too. 

**Note, I wouldn’t necessary call this a “netbook” due to the lack of a solid state hard drive. Due to its size people call it as such, but really, it’s just a small laptop. You won’t find a 160gb netbook, solid state laptop for this price!

Instead of another Pocket PC, I got a Netbook

After my Pocket PC couldn’t be taken off of life support (aka the battery wouldn’t take a charge anymore, and I couldn’t find a replacement battery for it again.) I chose to get a Netbook instead. All the functions of a Pocket PC with a boat load more. Simple to set up, simple to use, and so lightweight, it fits into my shoulder bag, and small leather back pack. With a mobile wireless it becomes a fantastic portable way to stay connected. 

With the SD and expansion slots, it has become my mobile photo lab. Take photographs, review, edit, adjust and upload without having to wait until you come home. 

Can play DVD quality AVI files. The screen is a bit reflective out of doors, but a protective screen cover (something I heartily recommend getting) will cut that problem down. 

Took a while to get accustomed to the smaller keyboard layout, but that was not a huge problem. 

My only issue with this was you have to take it into a computer shop to have the memory maxed out. The design for expanding the memory wasn’t well plotted out, and an access panel should have been designed into the underside of the netbook. 

I also recommend getting the 6 or 9 cell battery to make it well and truly a ‘daily use’ portable, as one of the many complaints of notebook and netbook users is 3 hr battery life.

Incredible small bugger!

I will make this mercifully brief and dispense with the technical aspects of this machine as they have been exhaustively covered in many other reviews most notably by ‘Wavy Davey’ (look up his review here). I just want to say this is an incredible small rig and with the newer netbooks out, you can get it at a steal. Given its limitations, it is incredibly quick and will handle most chores without a hiccup. Multitasking with processor/memory intensive programs is ill advised although I use Photoshop CS3, Paintshop X2, Microsoft Office, and a host of other programs that my larger sibling (a dual core 17″ laptop with a 2.4Ghz CPU and 4GB of RAM) runs albeit slower on this machine. The largest deal breaker, though, is the 8.9″ screen. I know that netbook makers are going to larger screens but the smaller screen is exactly what you want if what you’re shooting for is portability, this is the ticket. Just about the size of a 200+ page novel, you can throw this in your bag and go. Painless to pull out in airports and very light. Even with my 60 year ancient eyes, it’s very simple to read web pages (with my reading glasses)and the show is gorgeous. Go for the slip leather case by Licaso found here on Amazon and elsewhere and also spring for a cordless mouse and you’ll be excellent to go. I can’t offer up enough superlatives for this small guy. You can probably find one now by sniffing around for way south of 0. Dispense with the included McAfee Internet Security Suite and go with ZoneAlarms’s. OK, that’s it. Go get one! 

Addenda: August 28, 2009: Get the 9 cell battery also if you value longevity away from a plug battery [...] is a excellent place to start). Increases runtime to anywhere from 7-9 hours depending……….still fits in my case also.

Killer small computer!

We Like our Acer netbook! What a fantastic small computer. Even though the keyboard is compressed, I can still type very well on it, even though I am a huge guy with huge hands. I’ve been travelling with it and the compact size is really nice. It fits in the front zipper pocket of my American Tourister rolling carry-on bag perfectly. I bought one of those tiny small miniature mice for it and that was a excellent investment. So far, no problems with the computer and I would recommend it to anyone needing an inexpensive, compact computer that still has plenty of horsepower.
